CLIMB school on advanced tools for bio-membrane research

During 27-30 October 2026, our Beneficiary Partner Technische Universität Darmstadt organised and hosted the CLIMB school on Advanced tools for Biomembrane research.

The school included frontal lectures and tutorials sessions covering advanced experimental and computational approaches for biomembrane research.

We kicked off with lectures by Costanza Montis (UNIFI), Kislon Voitchovsky (Durham) and Salvo Chiantia (Potsdam) on the application of microscopy and imaging techniques to lipid based systems.
The second day started with tutorials on imaging and continued with lectures on scattering techniques by Yuri Gerelli (CNR) and Emanuel Schneck (TUDa). The third day featured tutorials on scattering and lectures on computational methods by Emanuel Schneck and Fabrice Thalmann (CNRS) with a science talk by Viktor Stein (TUDa).

Beyond the scientific content, the school, organised by Emanuel Schneck, was a unique opportunity for our doctoral researchers to exchange ideas, strengthen collaborations and build the interdisciplinary skills needed to tackle complex challenges in membrane science.
